The name Gems refers to a precious stone. The ALPINA GEMS is our freeride jewel: unique, lightweight and valuable – a gem for the head. A particularly striking feature of the GEMS is the scattered hole pattern structure that allows for ventilation across the entire surface. This feature will come in handy for every freerider during a sweaty climb or in sunny mountain weather. Naturally the active venting can also be operated with gloves on. For extra protection in the backcountry, the helmet has a low cover around the back of the head and a hybrid shell structure, which also distributes the forces exerted by objects striking the helmet.
• Hybrid Tec - Hybrid Tec combines the advantages of Inmold and Hardshell. The lower part of the helmet consists of a light and well-cushione Inmold shell, whereas in the upper part a very robust hard shell encases the Hi-EPS. Another advantage: The hardshell upper shell of the hybrid construction leaves more room for air vents and ducts. As a result, hybrid helmets score with one of the best aeration and ventilation systems on the market, in addition to their safety plus features.
• Hi Eps - The inner shell of all Alpina helmets is made of Hi-EPS (High Expanded Polystyrene). The material has microscopically small air chambers that absorb the forces acting on the helmet in the event of an impact. Hi-EPS provides optimum protection and at the same time allows for extra-thin helmet wall as well as narrow helmet shapes.
• Ceramic Shell - All Alpina helmets manufactured using the inmold process are fitted with a robust ceramic shell. A polycarbonate plate is stretched under intense heat onto the shape of the helmet in the making and pressed onto the Hi-EPS body under high pressure and thermally bonded to it. The Ceramic shell is characterized by several qualities: It is impact- and scratch-resistant, UV-stable and antistatic.
• Edge Protect is an additional polycarbonate plate that give inmold helmets a touch of refinement. It covers the edges on the underside of the helmet. This protects the Hi-EPS and increases the helmet's durability.
• Run System- The Run System enables all Alpina helmets to adjust to a custom size by using an easy-to-move dial. Alpina relies on the tried-and-tested Run System Classic for its ski helmets, a flexible head adjustment system with a central dial. A twist mechanism allows the headband to be adjusted more loosely or more tightly. The large dial is equipped with a non-slip two-component mix and can be operated perfectly with ski gloves.
• Ergo Matic - Proven a hundred thousand times over and used on all Alpina helmets: the strap buckle with the red push button and multi-step automatic locking mechanism. Ergomatic can be operated with one hand - you can loosen the strap on the way up the mountain and tighten it for downhill - and in a fall the locking mechanism cannot open automatically.
• A helmet can only provide the best possible protection if it remains in the optimum position in the event of an impact. The adjustment and fixing of the two straps under the ear plays a decisive role. The Y-clip system ensures a millimetre-accurate adjustment - in a matter of seconds.
• Air vents at the top of the helmet can be opened and closed using the Airstream Control mechanism. The air flow can thus be regulated and adapted to the weather conditions. This ensures perfect air conditioning inside the helmet at all times.
• lavalan® is a washable insulation material made of sheep wool, used as a padding in ALPINA ski helmets to provide extra comfort. The sustainably obtained lavalan® wool has both insulating and temperature-regulating properties, is breathable and prevents unpleasant sweat odours from forming thanks to the wool’s natural moisture management and the self-cleaning function of the wool fibres. European wool is exclusively used for production, the short production routes for which allow us to monitor animal welfare.
